Fine jewellery, the perfect companion to your capsule wardrobe

Lark & Berry

I have written a great deal about the benefits of a capsule wardrobe and how a handful of high quality key staples will serve you for many years.

I haven’t however covered the topic yet of jewellery. I felt that as this is such an important part of anyone’s ensemble, it required its own blog post. Indeed, jewellery is arguably one of the most important details when adding that final touch to your outfit. Akin to your perfume - deeply personal and individual.

What’s your preference?

In the way that a handbag can and does have the capacity to make or break an outfit, jewellery takes this rule to another level. Finishing a simple lightweight knitted sweater with a subtle yet regal single-stone ruby on a fine gold chain can have the potential to add an immaculate elegance and luxury to your look - exquisite in its daintiness and powerful with its simplicity. Equally, a simple white t-shirt with a bold architectural necklace will look vibrant, contemporary and original and thus creating a completely different statement to the first look, such is the power of jewellery.

Precious stones

One cannot help but appreciate the wonder that fine jewellery incites. I love all types of jewellery from big, bold and fun pieces to seriously discreet exquisite precious gemstones, and everything in between! My penchant for eye-catching conceptual pieces (think huge gobstoppers for rings) has only grown as I’ve learned more about my style. A few years ago I even undertook a short professional course at the Birmingham School of Jewellery and have enjoyed creating (for fun) my own rings over the years - jagged rocks picked up on walks by the sea and in the countryside; cleaned and then encased in metal wires structures. However, when it comes to a capsule wardrobe, the pieces most beneficial will be more refined jewellery that is elegant and due to the innate simplicity, will add more value to your wardrobe than spending lots on more fashion-led piece.

Sustainable jewellery

It’s been a recent highlight to discover jewellery brand Lark & Berry who specialise in those stunning, momentous pieces that we all crave in our jewellery box. However, perhaps equally as beautiful is their sustainable ethos in creating these sought-after items. All of their diamonds and gemstones are lab-grown. That means that it avoids the impact on the environment because they culture all their gemstones to ensure the earth remains untouched and unharmed - a subject close to my heart. They are also conflict-free, removing any potential for human exploitation. Stunning jewellery that is also kind to our planet. Also, due to the gemstone being lab-grown rather than sourced, it removes the mining related mark-ups and the savings are passed to the customer. Jewellery that is as considerate to the environment as it is to your budget. Having had the opportunity to peruse their collection, there is a wide range of options for the customer to own something special with prices starting in the region of a couple of hundred pounds.

Perfect gifting

With the Christmas season looming large (there, I’ve said it!), you won’t go wrong choosing a piece as a stunning gift for a loved one. Perhaps you are desiring something yourself and rest assured - fine jewellery is worth the investment. Precious and semi precious pieces that you will want to keep forever or hand down to children and grandchildren. The beauty too that it will generally appreciate in value. I’ve found mine here with this 14 carat gold and diamond Leo pendant necklace - purrfect for the spiritually inclined person in your life! I am delighted to be able to pass on a discount to my dear readers. Please use ‘Zoe10’ at checkout to receive 10% off your purchase. Offer is valid for a limited time.

Here are key things to consider with fine jewellery:

  • Think about proportions - a more petite frame for example may be overpowered by bolder pieces and vice versa for a larger frame which can hold more substantially-sized jewellery.

  • Consider the gemstone. If you’re unsure, go for a stone that is symbolic with your month of birth or your horoscope sign for example and therefore a piece with even more meaning.

  • Decide if you suit gold or silver better. The cooler your skin tone, the more that silver will likely suit you, and the warmer your skin tone then try gold or rose gold. If in doubt, hold up the piece to your skin in daylight and you’ll have an instinctive feel of what compliments you the most. Alternatively, please get in touch for a free consultation

  • Experiment mixing and matching fine jewellery with more inexpensive or fun pieces to create your own unique style. Also, stacking pieces creates interest and a more individual approach to your look.

  • Fine jewellery and jewellery with precious and semi-precious stones really is a great investment as it tends to appreciate in value over the years. You won’t regret it.
